New Leg Harness Eye Candy

Hello all, Jeffery finished my new leg and arm harness. Heres a pic.of the legs.From what I can see, He did a fantastic job as usual.Jeffery sent me these pics.I hope he wouldnt mind me posting them.The legs are based on the childs armour at Chartres.The cuisses and knee cops are spring steel.The greaves and sollerets are mild. Thanks Donasian! I should have said the cuisses were based on the Churbug #53, I think that was the number,with the fans on the knee cops and the sollerets based on the chartres leg harness...Otto

Hello William, I think it was about three and a half to four months from the time we started discussing it.Of course it took me about 2 weeks to decide what i wanted.He also had to sent plaster bandages so I could make a cast of my leg. He had to wait till they came in,then ship em to me,I had to make them and ship them back to him.All that took about a month. I'd say from the time the order was confimed and he had all my measurements it took about 8-10 weeks. I didnt pack the casts as well as I should have, and they were damaged in transit, making his job more difficult. Really a pretty quick turnaround for custom work of this quality in my opinion.The spring steel arm harness are the standard "in stock" late 14th cent arms he has on his website.I didnt order those till the legs were already started. Of course he had to custom make mine as my arms are fairly long.I was really suprised when he said hed get started on them as soon as more steel came in.It must have gotten there within a few days after he emailed me. I cant really think of anyone else thats as fast AND as good as Mr. Hedgecock....Plus he answers emails,....and theres always someone around to answer the phone during the week.I'm really pleased to post a "happy" experience after reading of so many problem transactions with some of the armourers out there........Otto

Hi Otto,

Tres Beau as usual on Jeffreys part. Money on armour well spent Otto. I'd rather have 1 pair of legs this qualiy, than 2 or three of lesser.

Is there any reason that the greaves and sollerets are made from mild? Aside from cost.

Hello Pietro da M, Yes, you guessed it! The only reson I went with mild on the greaves and sollerets was to keep the cost down. I wont use it often,and the guys I play with dont target shins or feet,at least usually not.I probably should have gone with spring for the whole harness,I'll probably use a few hundred dollars worth of elbow grease trying to keep them clean over the years LOL.Higher carbon steel is definatly more rust resistant than mild, more like the real 15th and 16th cent armour I've examined.......Otto

The Armour came yesterday. Its awesome. Yes, Eric I'll post some more pics soon of everything. Clermont, the greaves and sollerets are 18 gauge mild.Now I've got to get back to playing wioth it.......Otto PS Review and pics coming soon

William,

I'm not sure if you wanted the pics of the rest from me or Otto. The arms and spaulders we made for him were the same as my standard 1380's ones, just with his measurements.

I appreciate all the kind comments posted here by everybody. I'm pleased that you find the work favorable. We're pretty excited about all the spring steel armour that's been ordered and that we've shipped.

Otto/James has emailed that he's really pleased with the armour, so I hope he'll give you folks the benefit of a review and maybe post a picture of him wearing the pieces. Nudge...nudge....

I was hoping that Otto would post a pic of himself in the spiff new kit (he mentioned something of the sort a post or two up I think) but thanks for the input. Shortly I plan to place an order before culinary school starts up again and eats all my money...
