Howdy,

How would you make a buckler for SCA fighting that looks period correct for 1500AD?

I know armourers with skill (and some with time), but I don't know HOW this would be done...it's that "padded edge" rule thing that has me thrown for a loop.

What is the rule for the "shield" on the madu...that's close...

The I.33 buckler from Mandrake is fine for SCA, I use it all the time. It is a metal rolled edge:

Doesn't even a rolled edge give Marshalls heartburn? I don't want to cause anyone a stomach-ache....

Christian Darce's fine establishment sells steel bucklers; http://www.woodenswords.com/WMA/buckler.htm and very nice hard leather bucklers; http://www.woodenswords.com/WMA/lbuckler.htm

additionally, design for a buckler of the 1500s can always be found in historical art. Here is a sample of what can be found in a search; http://www.thehaca.com/arttalk/at79.htm

I've been using a 15" steel buckler with a 6"X3" center boss and a rolled rim for years. I have not recieved a single negative remark.(the edge is rolled over a 3/16ths bar for added stability and for a rim a full 1/4" thick)
