Fighter Practice in Northern VA after Xmas?

I'm taking a trip to Northern VA from Dec 26 to just after New Years...are any of the groups up there going to be having fighter practice during that time?

If I recall, I'll be fairly close to Ponte Alto and Storvik, and thought I would drop by practice to visit and take swings at some old friends (and I get the 'itch' if I have to go a whole week without fighting)

So, if any Archivers in that area are going to be practicing that week, please let me know!

I believe both the Storvik Monday night, and the Ponte Alto Thursday and Sunday practices run all year round as they are indoors during the winter.

Yeah, but the Ponte Alto practice is in a school which is closed for the holidays. Thursdays are out, since Christmas and New Years Day are Thursdays this year. Whether we can, or should pay for the site on Sunday the 28th was up in the air, last I checked. I'll try and find out more tonight. If the weather is decent, we can always play in the park on Sunday like we do the rest of the year. I would expect Sunday the 4th to be a go, if you are here then. Sorry, I dunno about Storvik.

I was going to say that I wouldn't assume there is practice, just because they have indoor sites. We have an indoor site, but we are always 'closed' for the holidays. If you let people know you are coming and bringing armour you can usually get some folks to get something private together for you.

I need to check with Joscelin d'Outremer about the Storvik practice schedule. The practice is held at <B>St. Andrews Church </B> but being as it is a church, they tend to have activities going on during the holiday.
I'm also not sure what the attendance would be like just after X-mas.

I do realize that this isn't the most opportune time of year to score a practice, but I don't want to miss out on an opportunity for some Atlantian fighting if I can avoid it.

Sunday the 28th would work well for me...I'd be game for that park, by the library, if that's where practice is still held. That was where I first encountered the SCA, as a young lad.

No worries if it doesn't happen, but if anyone can confirm when/where/if there will be a practice between Dec 26th and Jan 2nd, I'll plan on being there.

Storvik will be holding practice at St. Andrews every Monday in december including the 29th. Hit the link I posted before for a map and address.

Here's a google map of the DC area fight practices

I don't think our Tuesday practice in Lochmere is "on", though (in a school). It's possible that the Friday night practice in Bright Hills will be (in a church).

Okay, the Ponte Alto Sunday practice on Sunday the 28th is a go at the indoor practice site: Lemon Road Elementary School on Idlewood Road. (From the park site, take Rt 7 east, Turn left on Idyllwood just before I-66. School is on the left in a few blocks.) 1:30-4:30 pm, no marking shoes.

Thanks Cunian. That's great to hear, because it turns out that I won't be able to make the Monday night practice. Lemon Road is also just about 20 min from where I'll be staying, so that works out well.

Cunian beat me to it; Sundays are still on during the holidays. I would go the 28th but it is my bday and I have people staying for the holidays.

Just to reiterate and clarify:

Not only will we have the Ponte Alto practice and Scholum Artis Bellum classes on Sunday, 12/28... but we also have them on 1/4. There will be no interruption of our Sunday Socials.

Neither week has Thursday practices.

Max, I'm glad you posted here...can you do me a favor and see if Sir Michael is going to be at the 12/28 Sunday practice? I lost his email address and cell phone number when I got the new computer. I'm not sure if he is back in action yet, but even if not, it would be really cool to see him again.

Dietrich:

I just had lunch with him on Tuesday and I with certainty can assure you that he will *not* be in attendance on Sunday.

While he is already back on the job, catching bad guys, and making incredible progress in terms of the amount he is able to walk and such... he is still very much in recuperation-mode and certainly not yet back in fighting trim, as it were. He is in negotiations with the relevant powers that be (who shall remain nameless) in regards to his desire to perhaps get out to Pennsic for a bit this year (just to hang, if not to fight), but he has not yet made it back to any practices or events or such.

Send your personal email and cellphone number to me at maxntropy@att.net and I'll get them out to Michael-San. Given his recuperation schedule, family-time, work schedule (he's actually back travelling), and his still-limited energy levels, he's got alot of commitments to manage... but I'll definitely forward them onward!!!
