What improvements to your kit in 2009?

Mid-late 14th C kit:

Plaque belt (half way there)
Klappvisor (nearly done)
Spring steel finger gauntlets (materials acquired)
Fighting hose
Figure out base garments/gambeson/pourpoint

Hmmm....

1. Aventail is being put on helmet at Duke Icefalcon's now.

2. Just got gauntlets from the same need to attach gloves.

3. Cuisses--Need to comission some my seamstress who was going to help is working on Masters thesis so... (shrug) anyone anyone...Beuller? Thaddeus' design...

4. Make new period helmet liner.

5. Fight more.

My goal is to remove 70 lbs of wasted material from both my hard and soft kits this year.

I removed 50 lbs of waste last year in 3 months so this shouldn't be to much of a problem.

Ahh you know its because of putting on the maile, raising your arms up and all. You just need someone to pull it down at the hem and pull the sleeves.
Mine does the same thing, A couple tugs in the right place and its fine.

I kind of fudged the measurements so the shirt came out a bit big around the arms. Looking at some primary source stuff it doesnt look all that wrong actually. But I dont get that sleek muscled look. Tailoring is probably more work than it is worth though, really.

Armour:
Goal number 1:
New flemish/german arms to go with my current rig.

Goal number 2:
Raised hardened and tempered spring steel North Italian export sallet with matching bevor, both with period handmade linen liners, aka the last helm I'll ever buy... this year..

Already ordered some time ago, but I need to wait until the armourer can start on it, which will probably be November.

Goal number 3:
Hardened and tempered spring steel North Italian export Cuirass and arms in the english fashion.
This goal will most probably be delayed till way into 2010, but one can only hope.

Camp:
If my best friend will get his driver's license, we'll expand the camp with furniture, and as soon as we've got that I really want:
- A 15th century brass candlestick
- Glassware
- The whole range of replica earthenware trenchers and other tableware a acquantance of us makes. It's very much like the originals I've seen!
- Pewter pitchers and trenchers
All this so we can do some nice historical dining portrayals, must be great! Eat and get paid too!

I am referring to the gambeson riding up, not the maile shirt.
As for the sleek muscled look, well thats a tough call.
When the maile is on you get someone to pull down on the cote hem, and hold the collar and pull the sleeve, this will get the cote back down to where its comfortable.
When you put your hands over your head to put on the maile the cote naturally rides up, then when the maile goes on it grips the cote and keeps it from settling back down where it would be.

A 100% new kit

All much more period correct...

All hidden legs/knees and arms; Torso armor will be lamellar with leather-work. A friend of mine is going to make me a new fighting tunic knee length with embroidery. New fighting pants.

My new helm matches the British helms down to the "reversed brim"...
and I'm almost done with it ALL...huh injuring my heel has some advantages after all.

-Ditch blue foam and add a helmet liner to bascinet (finished that this morning)
-Make new and better padded, cuisses.
-Assemble my Cet fabricated coat of plates.
-Finish swapping the mild steel splints for SS splints on the greaves.
-Buy SS riveted link Hauberk (to match aventail) for pas
-Make another pourpoint for holding up my cuisses (I'm sick of the belt digging into my hip).

And most importantly for 2009;
-lose 10 lbs. so I can fit back into my soft kit.

I misread this the first time.

Yeah the arming coat rides up while fighting. It kind of creeps up everytime I lift my arms up, the mail grabs it and wont let go until I or some one grabs the hem and hauls it back down. Not a big deal and not greatly noticeable under the surcoat and all.

I decided to try and finish out my Rus kit.
I just started a 1050 Helmet "great Polish helm"(my 4 piece design)
I Will put a mail drape.
I also have a bazuband pattern I may do from spring. My thing there is I like my seperate elbow. I wear it hidden. I just cant get along with the incorporated cop. So if I start to produce them I may only have the floating cop option.

With those to items I think I ay be done with the armour aspect. Then It will be soem costuming aspects.

And then I need to finish my "new" Polish helm. I started it 3 years ago, bout time I finished it. Then it will bet the arms, some sort of gorget to resemble the Hussar style. Maybe a back plate and some wings.

All this while making items for Windrose.
It will a long year.

The short to-do list for this year:

-A proper Duchy Coronet for my Lady. I have been remiss in my duties for too long.

-Finish up the Mac great helm that has been half-finished in Count Morgan's shop for the last 2 years. This should top off my 13th century kit that's been lying dormant for years.

-Finish the Rus Helmet that I've had mocked up for the last 9 months or so I can feel better about myself when running around with the Conroi Boreales (an Artemisian Norman Warband)

-Finish edging my metal Lamellar and put some brass bits and leather trim on a pair of spaulders to finish up a first run Byzantine kit. I'll need a different helmet, ditch the upper arm lamellar, and extending the tunic sleeves to cover my arms.

-Keep working on the Japanese stuff I started just a few months ago.

Fix up my 14th century stuff to be Battle of the 30 appropriate. Go ENGLAND!
(Lots of cleaning and repairs required, pick leather or steel limbs, new helmet, etc.)

I'm great at starting new projects, hopefully I can finsh up one or two just for laughs.

Since my kit is pretty much a collection of hand-me-downs, My goal for the year is to improve the look of my kit and upgrade where possible. Money is tight, so . . .

Goals for the year:

1. New fighting garb (tunic, trousers, etc)
2. Hidden legs
3. Bazubands (leather)
4. Placart belt (probably wear under my tunic)
5. Shoulder protection (haven't had this before)

Future:
6. New helm (spagenhelm)
7. More new garb

Here's my latest upgrades;

New Cuisses (leather with kydex splints and brass rivets to match the COP)
Stitched the maille sabatons onto my new HE turnshoes

Still need to fix my (not shown) maille shirt up so I can get finished for GW and need to sand/stain the haft of the pole arm.

What to finish - edging my lamellar, but making sure its not going to be a pian to redo, once I lose rest of weight. Plus thinking of leather skirt to go with everything.

Finally going to get some proper footwear and leg wraps this year.

Want to edge my chain with tooled leather on the hem of the sleeves and skirt.

Need a spif belt.

And I'm trying to think of an option other than plastic basket hilts.

Oh damn.. need to make a new gorget and demi's.. ummm.. I should get non-armor garb improvements some day.

HMMM....let's see:

-new body armor, something snug to avoid the football shoulder pad look and still provide the coverage I want under the cover tunic

-new cover tunic

-replace cuisses and knees for a better fit

-nice new center grip shield

Soft kit is gonna get a full rework as soon as my financial advisor lets me spend a little money. Trousers, wickelbander, shoes all needed to get the Northumbrian look right. Just have to find the money.

My plan in this order:

Change the fans on my arms and legs out to rondels
Make a surcoat to wear over my COP and such
get some period shoes i like to fight in, make sollerets
Finish my new breastplate
Get my maille tailored, and strip the blackening off of it.

I would have put greaves on the list, but my lady got me some as a xmas gift for me from MadMatt. Should be here in the next few weeks "yay!"

After that, i guess get my device into the heralds so i can wear it lol

After that, i should have a pretty nice 2nd quarter 14th cent rig done.

get buckles for jousting ecranche that aren't modern.

New linen-faced layered cotton kremasmata. Pteruges overtop, maybe.
Spring steel hidden elbows and knees.
Curved teardrop shield instead of flat Norse centergrip.
SS gauntlets.
New tunica, new belt, and if time new shoes.

Suffice to say that the armour "budget" has been badly busted.

In process of strapping new legs...
Half Gauntlets are being overhauled...
Greaves are being troublesome...
