On site Sunday morning, helping Duke Mann with the battlefield set-up. Be there until Monday a.m.

Hopefully, someone has ordered up sun, and about 75 to 80 degree day temps, only cooling off a little at night. No rain, no wind...

I got the order in last week! It might be a little cooler than the 75-80 F, though. But, I specified NO RAIN.

I'm sure His Grace Mathghamhain can back me up on this: it rains at Estrella every other year. Last year was muddy, so this year should be good.

2 years ago was wind, last year was rain, this year sounds like it might be ... ok... But don't say it too loud.

Arion and I tell people this all the time. They don't believe us until they've been a few years. We won't be going this year though.

I think I'm changing my statement to "at least" every other year though, as there've been a couple 3 in a row years.

Wind wind wind. It can come all by itself or with the rain and is why our period tents all were ordered with sloped walls... there is a reason Middle Eastern tents are shaped the way they are....

I grew up going to hunting camps in Imperial Valley all winter, so I'm very familiar with desert farm mud. Its the stuff that makes giant mud snowshows on your boots that get bigger and bigger with each step.

Last year was shortly post-knee surgery and there was no way I was going to head out on a "rain year".

This year the kids have too much school stuff going on ...

Have fun folks!

The plan is to arrive with the household at Caid Royal by noon on Wed. Staying until Monday.

Very excited! Can't wait to meet even more cool Atens, and folks from elsewhere. Partay--and shop! As soon as my household's pavilions are set up I'm running to Bohemon's (sp?) to order my Persian boots for fighting!
Not planning on war fighting, but there are a few tourney's happening. :)

I'm very sad that I will not be at Estrella this year. I was looking forward to doing some waterbearing, doing some wiggling, cheering myself hoarse in praise of the few Ansteorrans that go, and listening to my brother drum (he wont' be going either). I am entirely bummed.

I was supposed to fly out this morning. I've been sick for a week, Doc says no. Damn it. Cancelled flight, may use the flight credit for Gulf Wars (since its non-refundable).

I'm so depressed, I really wanted to go...

Don't be too sad Richard. It has been raining hard this past week, so the ground will already be muddy from the start, then most reports say rain off and on from Friday night through Monday, plus "seasonable cool weather", which can mean it could be very cold, as well as wet.

I'm told the site is has poor drainage. Many of our locals are pulling out due to weather. We were still considering it off and on, but having our period canvas stained with mud a few feet up put the nail in the coffin.

It depends a lot on what weather site you look at. Several show it dry during the day, but if you open up the details on the day, some show rain starting Friday night. Most have been consistently showing rain Saturday and Sunday.

I've done my time on that count.

So far it has been really pleasant here in Phoenix. It is a bit chilly by our standards but nothing bad, low to mid 60's during the day. Each day has been somewhat cloudy with the sun and blue skies being dominant.

The weather forecast at the beginning of the week called for rain on Saturday. The recent call is partly cloudy with a small chance of rain.

I have heard the site is in decent shape so far. I will be out tomorrow thru Sunday just enjoying being unplugged from tek.
Be content with what you have and who you are, and no one can despoil you.
