I'm really excited and happy for Vlad. He has been up there at Crowns for as long as I have been traveling to Atlantia(13 yrs?) and longer, and has always struck me as a good guy.

Have a great time Your Highness!

These were the final four apparently.

Count Robert de Rath 16-1
Sir Vladimir Aleksandrov 27-1 “Can't finish the tourney with a pole. I think he has finalled about 28 times now.â€

That's awesome.
How many crowns have been won with the glaive as a primary weapon now?

One of Paul's, Maynard, Vlad.. one of Palymar's I think? Any others?

The final was between Sir Vladimir and Earl Robert. Best of three, with no restrictions on weapons. Sir Vladimir, as is his wont, fought with glaive the entire time. Earl Robert fought with sword and shield.

In the first match, Sir Vladimir struck Earl Robert on the head while Earl Robert simultaneously struck Sir Vladimir's arm. His Majesty intervened, however; saying that Sir Vladimir's blow was a haft. Neither of the Marshals in the Lists had noticed that. So the fight continued with Sir Vladimir wielding his glaive one-handed, and Earl Robert made quick work of it.

In the second match, Sir Vladimir's blow struck true, leaving the finals at sudden death.

In the third match, the two combatants flurried at close range, then Earl Robert stepped back and went to his knees. After a moment, he took off his helm and coif, saying that he had taken a thrust that, on reflection, was good; and thus conceded the match.

His Majesty was indeed making a visual record of the Tourney.

polearm to the win

Post by Corby de la Flamme »

This is, I am certain, the first time an Atlantian Crown has been won exclusively with a polearm.

I renew my contention that His Highness is the best polearmsman in the world.

This is fantastic news. May their ginger reign last forever... or at least the full six months.

Did Vlad's polearm have a padded, or rattan edge?

I wasn't there but i'm 99.9% sure it was padded, at least a little, since that is how he fights 99.9% of the time...

It was padded, as was the glaive of the other gentle who at one point took that style into the Lists. Otherwise it was all sword and shield. I don't think unpadded pole-arms are sanctioned in Atlantia, and I hope they never are.

Ah, well, no.

I make no bones about my inability to move through an Atlantian Crown fighting nothing but polearm. I'll happily stack my glaive against anyone with two sword, polearm or great sword, but when it comes to knight quality sword and shield fighters, I may last a few passes, and I may kill a few of them, but I can't do what Vlad does in that regard.

split head polearms are legal without padding. the silly nutstick unpadded no tellin if tis a haft shot, a flat shot, or a blade shot polearms are not. i doubt they ever will be in atlantia. if someone boobs up and makes them legal im certain the next crown will put us back on the right path. a weapon should look like a weapon and not something a farmer might use to knock nuts from trees.

in my time you are right. although i won my third and forth with polearm until the finals because of the (goofy) weapons restrictions in place for both (lower op chooses weapons form). i did get to choose the form when i fought baudoin since he is higher in the op than me. both lists were around the 30 fighter mark and everyone challenged me with polearm. have i mentioned i hate weapons restrictions in any tourney.

vlad fought world class the entire day. i have ever fight taped (an hour and a half of fighting) and will finish capturing it today. her majesty and i are very pleased with our heirs and we look forward to their reign.

logan

I wrote:[Sir Vladimir's] polearm . . . was padded . . .

At the time I made that statement that was my belief. But yesterday I was talking with Sir Otto von Schwartzkatz, Deputy Earl Marshal for Armored Combat, who inspected Sir Vladimir's weapon; and he told me it had a split-rattan head.

I answered based on the appearance of the glaive; I was mistaken. My apologies to all.

yeah the video......

well, ive uploaded it twice now and im still having trouble with it. i have no idea what is going on. i didnt edit it at all and its a big file (3.2 GB) which takes many hours to upload. i did it twice for fear that the first upload lost some packets due to dropping conectivity with my server a few times. the second upload was flawless.

still working on a fix.

Prince Vlad told me it was not padded. It may have been a "split rattan" glaive.
