Fighting Video from 1979.

Post by Leopold der Wolf »

Our Shire made a youtube channel and posted some old videos. I can't believe these are from 30 years ago. Its pretty crazy.

Thought you guys might enjoy the nostalgia bomb :).

* guess a video link would help huh.

Very cool indeed. Thanks!
This is a full-contact martial sport where twenty-year-old athletes can routinely get thrashed by fifty-year-olds with a gut and no knees

Oddest thing to me is hearing that we only had 2,000 members nation wide at the time. Of course that would explaine how I got a 4 digit member # when I joined 2 years later.

The "Sleep wars" link that shows up when you load that is even better. I am positive that I recognized several people from that video from my old days.

And we have gotten better. Not just with the armor, but we are actually better fighters.

THL Baron Richard Fenwick (the guy you see speaking in the first video with the brown gotee) is still fighting today :). He's a good inspiration.

Not sure Adriano. The only people I know fur sure is THL baron Richard Fenwick (Gotee guy in first video) and Lord Owen Arbalesta (Guy in the light blue gambeson in second video). The vid came out 9 years before I was born lol :D .

Sure as hell looked like him. Long hair, coffin shield, shorter than everyone else yet still able to play the range game? I'd say so.

Yes. About 99.9999% certain. If not it's his good twin.

Oh wow, this is the most magically weird and awesome one. Some of our Shire members on a tv show being interviewed. 1980's tv music with people fighting in front of a blue screen, DnD talk and more, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqNCpwyX ... annel_page

I look back at some of these videos, and, having started the SCA not too many years afterwards (1984 for me), cringe at how ...dated...and bad... the fighting is.

Compared to the SCA of today... Whoa.

Man, how things have changed...
