Re: From LARP to SCA : Aluminium seems OK for SCA fighting

Its about 14 gauge aluminum in your kit. 14 g goes about. .9 lbs per square foot of metal. My kit is made out of 20 g stainless. 20g is about 1.5 lbs per square foot. The aluminum still beats it by weight hands down but mine totally stands up to BOTN/ACL fighting. I was surprised when I looked it up...

Re: maille, round link vs flat link

Was historical maille round or flat link. :? Both, but not usually with the distinction we make. Look here for some examples: http://www.allenantiques.com/Armour-Mail-Collection.html Some is very round (except at the overlap). Some is much flatter... but not flat like the modern cheap stuff. wisby coat plate placement

My question is, if the gauntlets from wisby have plates over the leather and under the leather for good articulation, is it possible that the coat had the same configuration? Does any one have any good pics of the original coats found?

I usually survive those by whipping my boot out (smooth and tapered just for this) from under as soon as I feel even the slightest contact with a hoof, short of that I might typically try and use my shoulder to move the horse off without striking it. Failing that, I straight-up shove it off with bo...
