If you look through his Photobucket it's pretty clear that he isn't actually military of any sort, he just likes dressing up. Also, judging by timeline of Facebook photos, he's definitely not the Marine cook.

It's mostly thin stuff but you can occasionally find thick enough rattan at Coolite on Hastings St.

Alternately, come out to Lions Gate's Monday practice and look for Paddy MacBrian. He's about the only consistent local hook-up I can think of.

Depending on carpool plans I'm hoping to drive down and be on site Monday or Tuesday until Sunday. I went once eight years ago and have been wanting to return since.
