1460-1470 joint articulation. (SCA newbie question)

Guys, I have a newbie, and I think I got lucky. We sorted through the pile of used and loaner armor, and he selected a sort of close to kinda matching set of 5 lame articulated knees and 5 lame articulated elbows. We also found a Brig made with mardi gras coins (no kidding) that is a pretty good 10 ...

I should tell you guys this.

Hey, Guys, I didn't actually put it together until this evening, but some of you guys might be interested in this. I know somebody in this shop. My friend (as far as I know) isn't in sales. I don't know if there is a "Hook up" price, but I imagine my buddy might want to pull in an order or two. That...

Re: Has the Pennsic Smack Talk begun yet?

Well, Sir Varus, I hesitate to say anything, because I don't know you well. I don't know you well enough to say anything about your fighting style, or your physical fitness, or anything else about you. And, seriously, a Peer of the EastRealm should have nothing to fear from a lowly nobody from Drach...

Has the Pennsic Smack Talk begun yet?

Guys, I fought in April, because my ticket had expired, and I needed a new one. I was found to be "safe" but I was really unhappy about how I did. I have spent the the time since then trying to get the old body back into the saddle. The best thing about fighters is that they are both challenging and...

Thanks, everybody. I would really like to make this project work. I probably bit off way more than I can chew. The following is going to make me look really, really stupid. It is supposed to be a coat that cracks up the front, you know, like a coat. That's because I really want armor that easy to ge...

Plastic Corazina Tutorial?

Hi, Everybody,

Can somebody point me at a tutorial on making a plastic shell for a corazina? I know that I have seen one, but can't seem to find one at this moment.

Thanks for your kind attention.

Anybody got a blue gun they want to sell?

Guys, The leather working gig is a rough one. I would like to make it easier for a friend of mine. Armor is kind of a steady, but thin margin trade, and I would like to get my friend a blue gun as a gift. This is me asking, not them asking. For those who might not know, a blue gun is a mock up of a ...

Re: Flails?

It depends on what your terms are. A flail is an essential tool for harvesting and processing wheat when you use certain medieval methods. It wouldn't be the classic D&D flail, but it IS a flail. Also, different varieties of Gusari (fighting chains) are very easy to document in parts of Asia both fr...

For Best Results, read this out loud, to an audience that has been drinking. Once upon a time, there was a fighter (who's name has been changed to "Bob"). Bob was a martial artist who worked out religiously and was always looking for new ways to spice up his workouts. One day, during a particularly ...

When I went to my first practice, in the late '80's, a guy named "Waffle" hit me in my left hip so hard that my right hip got a bruise. Re: wood finishes

And, without false modesty, finishes are my weak spot. I totally suck at finishes. You really want to find another person to ask about finishes. Also, the "spontaneously burst into flame" thing is not a joke. Linseed oil rags need to be gotten out of your shop, period. They really will just burst in...

Re: wood finishes

Before you read this, understand that finishes are my weak spot. I am not so good with finishes. You want the finish to protect the wood. For tools that deal with face to face contact as they do their job, you don't want varnishes or lacquers, you want oils. Disassemble the tool, and sand it well to...

Napoleonic "housewife" (toiletries kit?)

OK. I was re-reading a Hornblower book a few minutes ago, and the protagonist was referring to putting his razor back in his "housewife." From the context, I am assuming that this is something like a toiletries kit. Does anybody have any information on what a Napoleonic gentleman's "housewife" would...
