Take a walk. Take your stick. Pick out random items/locations (That leaf, this spot on that tree, etc.) along your walk and just reach out and touch them while walking.
Re-familiarizing your hand with your weapon can help with both placement and timing.

My current progress on a mongol kit. Next step is some more low profile leather full gauntlets. I'm considering lamellar. Am also looking into ways to make a round shield with some depth to it. Such as dished metal or woven from wicker/rattan. I fought with a 26" aluminum domed round shield for a f...

Probably can't buy this at the moment - which is too bad, as this is a pretty sweet kit and my eldest (who is already doing mongolian) will be transitioning to D2 in the fall and I want to get him into a steel helmet.
If I may ask - what did that helmet start out as?

Very nicely done, Rod.
I would like to know more about this maille standard with what looks like an integral gorget - did you make it or purchase it? If purchased, from whom - if made, would you be willing to provide a brief "how to" (or a price quote)?
Thank you for your time

Seconded. If the pictures are still on that board, look for Otagiri's "hoteru-do" - so named for the assembly location, IIRC. It was quite nice and fairly inexpensive, as I remember.Thomas MacFinn wrote:http://tousando.proboards.com/index.cgi

Re: Step-strike or strike-step?
Do you step first and then strike or do you strike and then step? For me, as I presume it is for a lot of people, it depends on the combo and situation, but here are a few that I can break down offhand. Sword and Shield - Deep step and bend, offside hip, twist to flat snap (then get the heck out) S...

Re: "Oh Yeah? My Dad can beat up your Dad!” Pennsic XLI
I had a lot of fun at this tourney last year. Short, as there were only three of us, but intense. I was uncertain as to whether I would be able to make it this year (it is our afternoon to shop and cook for the camp that night) - but my lovely lady-wife has arranged for me to be able to attend once ...

Re: Trigger/no trigger?
I use a "really big trigger". It's a loop of leather inside my basket that all of my fingers fit through, but doesn't cinch them tightly together. This way, I can hold the sword and shuffle my grip about as need be and if my grip is lost, the loop works appropriately. Doesn't get hung up on anything...

Re: Show us your best lookng SCA weapons
I love the use of silver and black tape to get nice profiles on their weapons. I did the same with my spear a while back, but never took a picture of it. Here's one I just took, although it's in need of retaping. http://lastfamily.smugmug.com/Other/Fight-Stuff/i-vh9vRn5/0/S/2012-06-1010-49-03991-S.j...

Re: Grip for One Handed Sword?
I've used vetwrap (although I usually get mine at Southern States or Petco) on handles and it works pretty well. It's cheap and quickly/easily replaceable and gives a bit of tack and squish to the handle without being overbearingly so in either sense. When I rebuild my cross-hilted sword, I'm intend...

Notes on gorget: My neck is 17" and it fits with room to spare, which is good, because I recommend some cloth under it. When I originally bought it, it had some sharp corners that I rolled over to help lock the back in place and to keep the blood inside my body where it belongs. Would you say "a lo...
