I find Duke Finn's video on targeting and Brannos's videos pretty good refreshers to get the brain in the right frame of mind.

Domnall,

It would help if we knew what you wanted to work on.

There are drills for improving agility, drills for improving hand speed, drills for general fighting, drills for improving timing, drills for strength, drills for targeting, drills for practically everything.

What in particular do you want to improve?

Polearm?

Great question. We need a single repository for training videos like this. Hmmm....

I'd be particularly interested in videos on polearm basics.

that would be a really useful asset, particularly if it can be crossreferenced for all approaches, from SCA to WMA, and combine armoured and unarmoured, for training.
I'd particularly like to see that sort of colabborative discussion being fostered, as it promotes the understanding of the artforms for all of us.

I am looking for two man blocking and striking drills. The kind that you start slow and speed up as both people become more proficient. I want drills to develop reflexes.

I remember seeing one that had one person blocking over their off shoulder with their sword then returning and striking the other person. Someone's house or company recorded it.

Spatha and Legion shield? viking sword and roundshield, sword and kite, shortsword... sword and buckler, sword and shield, longsword. longsword and buckler, greatsword, rapier, rapier and buckler, rapier and roundshield?

there's an awful lot of variations out there.

if you're not certain what, a photo of the weapons you'll be using will probably help give ideas for everyone as to what sort.

Audax is right, the drill you remember seeing is House Asgard's "Two man kata". It's really useful for certain things. It's a good drill.

I was impressed with the sheer volume of drills available from the list that Tabernacle posted. I had no idea that that many different drills had been devised. I need to slog through them, and learn them.

Thanks

Oh boy - I almost wish I hadn't seen this, there is so much new material here! Thanks, everybody!

I'm going to have to bookmark this thread and ration these out. I will never absorb a quarter of it without lots of training and practicing in between videos. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes me a year or two!

I haven't finished the thread so someone may have beaten me to it, but you're thinking of Duke Gaston and Duke Baldar at a Trimaran University doing House Asgard drills.

Hey moderators!!! could we condense this thread down& make it a sticky for folks, an all training links page almost like a Karen Larsdatter type linkspage

Probably of very limited use, but one of my sabre students put some basic drills and techniques onto a youtube, if you'd like the link. What's there is mostly worthless against a shieldman (you need different techniques for that), but it shows stuff which can be extrapolated to be helpful against a single weapon or pole.

+1. This is an excellent resource and it would be a shame to let it drift off the main page.
